The BEAN Machine is currently being tested on XRPL Testnet. Everything below uses test XRP, which has no monetary value — you never need to buy anything to take part. When the Machine goes live on Mainnet these steps stay broadly the same; the network, prices and a few screens change, and this page is updated then.
This walkthrough takes you from a fresh wallet to holding your first BEAN. Setup takes about five minutes and costs nothing.
If you want to know what a BEAN actually is first — Born With traits, the Bean Locker, the Workbench, Beanville — start with The BEAN Machine and Beanville.
What you need
- A phone with Xaman installed, and a wallet already created in the app
- A computer or phone browser to open xrplhome.io
- About 10 test XRP for one mint — the faucet gives far more than that
Step 1 — Switch Xaman to Testnet
These steps follow Xaman's own Testnet instructions.
- Turn on Developer mode
Open Xaman, go to Settings → Advanced, turn on Developer mode, then go back.
- Open the network switch
Tap Home and use the network switch in the top-right corner.
- Pick XRPL Testnet
Under the Testnet category, choose XRPL Testnet — not Mainnet, and not another test network.
- Activate the account if needed
If your account needs activating, tap Activate your account → Activate account. When funding finishes, tap Close xApp.
- Confirm the switch
Check the top-right corner now says Testnet and a test XRP balance appears. Xaman's guide shows 1,000 test XRP; go by the balance you actually see.
Test XRP has no value, so there is nothing to buy. Never share your seed phrase, secret, PIN or any code with anyone — including anyone claiming to be from the XRPL Home team. Always check which network you're on before approving a request.
Step 2 — Connect your wallet
- Open the Mint page
Go to xrplhome.io/bean-machine.
- Start the connection
In the Your wallet panel, tap Connect wallet, then Connect with Xaman.
- Scan or open Xaman
On a computer a QR code appears — scan it with Xaman. On a phone, tap the option to open Xaman.
- Approve with your Testnet wallet
In Xaman, make sure the account selected is the same one you switched to Testnet, review the sign-in request, and approve it.
- Check you're actually signed in
Back on the site, Your wallet should now show your address instead of Not connected.
If Your wallet still says Not connected, you are not signed in yet. If no QR code or open-app option appears, take a screenshot and report it rather than pressing Connect repeatedly — and don't try to mint while signed out.
Step 3 — Get test funds
Open the Test funds page while signed in. This step exists only during the Testnet phase.
- Get test XRP
Only if your balance is low. If Xaman already activated your account, check your balance first.
- Add trust line
Approve the request in Xaman on Testnet and wait for it to finish. A trust line is a one-time wallet setting that lets your wallet hold a token such as test $DOOD.
- Get test Dood
Check it arrived in Xaman before moving on.
The Burn button on that page is a separate test. You don't need to burn anything to mint or play.
Step 4 — Pull the lever
One pull of the lever, one signature, one BEAN. The mint is blind: nobody — not you, not the team — knows what your BEAN looks like until it's revealed.
- Check you're ready
On the Mint page, confirm Your wallet shows your address and Pull the lever is lit up. It stays greyed out while you're signed out.
- Tap Pull the lever
Once.
- Check two things before signing
In Xaman, confirm the network says Testnet and the amount matches the price shown on the page. Then approve.
- Let it finish
Behind the scenes your BEAN is minted to an offer that only your wallet can accept. Once the accept is recorded on the ledger, its traits are rolled and revealed.
- Meet your BEAN
The Birth Certificate, the artwork and its traits appear, and the BEAN shows up in Your BEANs.
Step 5 — Confirm it's yours
- Use the ledger link on the certificate to check the NFT belongs to your wallet.
- If anything looks unclear, refresh and check Your BEANs before trying again.
Don't send a second mint until you know whether the first one landed. Check the transaction and refresh first.
If something goes wrong
Most problems come down to three things: not actually being signed in, the wrong network selected in Xaman, or a transaction that hasn't confirmed yet.
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Lever or game is greyed out | Are you signed in? Does the game need a Main Bean selected? Is a timer or play limit showing? If it's still greyed out after signing in, report it. |
| Stuck on "Connecting Xaman" | Screenshot it and report it. Don't keep pressing Connect. |
| I signed, but nothing appeared | Check the transaction and refresh Your BEANs. Note the transaction hash. Don't send another transaction until you know the first one's status. |
| Test funds or trust line missing | Confirm Xaman is on XRPL Testnet and the site is connected to the same wallet you funded. |
| I see someone else's BEAN on Mint | That's the public newest BEAN showcase. Your own are under Your BEANs and your Passport. |
| I can't change my BEAN's traits | Check whether it has an active sell offer — cancel it first. |
| I can't switch Main Bean | Main Bean can be changed once every 24 hours. |
Sending a useful report
Share reports in the private artist or tester channel, and keep early tests inside the test group unless the team says otherwise. Include a screenshot and enough detail for someone else to repeat what happened:
- Date and time, with timezone
- Device and browser version
- Xaman version and selected network
- Page URL and build number (in the footer)
- What you tried, and the result — Pass / Fail / Blocked
- Steps to repeat
- What you expected, and what actually happened
- BEAN number or trait name, if relevant
- Transaction hash, if one was sent
You can include your public wallet address to help the team check the ledger. Never include a seed phrase, private key, wallet secret, PIN or authentication code — in a report, a DM, or anywhere else.
What's next
Once you're holding a BEAN, its Passport is where it lives its life — naming it, setting a Main Bean, changing what it wears in the Workbench, and playing the daily games around Beanville.
The BEAN Machine and Beanville → covers all of that.
Key takeaways
- Setup takes about five minutes: Xaman on Testnet, a wallet, and free test XRP.
- Test XRP has no monetary value — you never need to buy anything to take part in the test.
- Opening the connect dialog is not the same as being signed in; check that Your wallet shows your address.
- One pull of the lever is one signature and one BEAN — don't send a second mint until you know the first one landed.
- Never share a seed phrase, secret, PIN or auth code with anyone, including anyone claiming to be the team.
