The Machine is in its testing phase right now, so minting runs on XRPL Testnet. Everything described on this page carries over to launch unchanged. For the step-by-step walkthrough, see minting your BEAN.
The BEAN Machine is where your BEAN is born.
Pull the lever, sign once in Xaman, and a one-of-a-kind BEAN NFT is minted to you on the XRP Ledger, with traits drawn by community artists. From there your BEAN gets a home on its Passport, can swap and earn new traits, and plays daily games around Beanville.
The mint is blind
One pull of the lever, one signature, one BEAN. Nobody — not you, not the team — knows what your BEAN looks like until it's revealed.
Behind the scenes your BEAN is minted to an offer that only your wallet can accept. Once the accept is recorded on the ledger, its traits are rolled and revealed. You then meet your BEAN: the Birth Certificate, the artwork and its traits.
What "Born With" means
Your BEAN's original traits are recorded permanently as its Born With look. You can change what it wears later, but the Born With record never changes — it's the BEAN's birth certificate.
Every original combination is unique: no two BEANs are born looking the same.
Three words worth knowing:
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Born With | The look your BEAN was minted with. Recorded forever, never changes. |
| Wearing now | The traits your BEAN has on right now. This is what shows in games and on the NFT. |
| Bean Locker | Every trait you've earned or collected that isn't being worn. |
Layers and rarity
Each BEAN is built from up to eight layers, bottom to top:
| Layer | Examples |
|---|---|
| Background | The scene behind your BEAN |
| Body | Bean types — coffee, lima, pinto, jelly bean and rarer bodies |
| Face | Eyes and expression |
| Clothing | Shirts, suits, outfits |
| Head / Hat | Hats, hair, headwear |
| Right hand / Left hand | Held items |
| Accessories | Glasses, extras |
Traits come in rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Epic, Legendary and Mythic. Live rarity is shown on XRPL Home — open any BEAN to see each trait, its tier and how many exist.
Exploring Beanville
Beanville has four tabs, and everything a collector does lives under one of them:
| Tab | What's there |
|---|---|
| Mint | The BEAN Machine, the newest BEAN showcase and the population count |
| Town | Neighbourhoods and collector homes — visit other collectors and their BEANs |
| My Beans | Your collection, Main Bean, Passport and Workbench |
| Play | The game directory: Arcade, Field Day, Pantry Pop, Pinto Racer and the Casino corner |
Every collector gets one home in their family's neighbourhood, showing their Main Bean and up to five chosen BEANs. You name your house.
A BEAN is a standard XRPL NFT, so it also appears in wallets and explorers such as Xaman, Bithomp and XRPScan. Live rarity and your BEAN's Beanville history are shown only on XRPL Home.
Your Passport
Your Passport is where your BEAN lives its life. You choose a Main Bean, give it a name, change what it wears in the Workbench, and keep everything you win in your Bean Locker — all while the NFT itself stays the same token in your wallet.
Your Main Bean is your player in Beanville: it's the face on the slot and claw machines, it drives in Pinto Racer, and it represents you on leaderboards. You can switch Main Bean once every 24 hours.
Names are checked, and a name belongs to you as the collector — it doesn't carry over if you sell the BEAN.
Changing traits in the Workbench
From My Beans, open the Workbench for the BEAN you want to change. Pick traits from your Bean Locker and preview the new look first. A swap fee is shown before you save, payable in XRP or the same value in $DOOD — $DOOD paid as a swap fee is burned.
Your BEAN keeps the same NFTokenID after every change. It's the same NFT, wearing something new. No two active BEANs can wear the exact same combination at once.
You can't customise a BEAN while it has an active sell offer. Cancel the offer first.
Selling, trading and spares
- When you sell a BEAN, the traits it's wearing go with it. Traits sitting in your Bean Locker stay with you.
- Trade Center — post what you have and what you're looking for. Trait-for-trait trades are free and one-to-one, and you set how long your offer stays open.
- Trade in spares — got two of the same trait? Trade the extra at the Prize Counter for tickets. You always keep one, and the traded copy leaves Beanville for good, making that trait rarer.
- Stickers, stamps and levels stay with you as a collector, not with the BEAN.
Games in Beanville
Every BEAN holder can play free daily games that win Pinto Tickets and new traits. You need to own at least one BEAN, and your Main Bean is the one who plays. Most games reset every 24 hours.
Pinto Tickets
- Earned by playing, from daily streaks, and by trading in spare traits. They never expire.
- They can't be bought, sent to anyone, or cashed out.
- Spend them at the Prize Counter on Common to Rare traits and special items. Epic and Legendary traits can't be bought — win them in the machines or on the weekly leaderboard.
- Your ticket balance is private to you; your public page shows things like XP and level.
The Arcade and beyond
Mayor Pinto's Arcade runs daily: The Magic Bean Machine (one free spin a day, wins traits for your Bean Locker), Pinto's Claw Machine (tap to drop the claw over a capsule), and Bean Drop (drop a bean and watch it bounce down the board for tickets).
Beyond the Arcade there's Pantry Pop, where what your BEAN wears gives it powers; Pinto Racer, where your Main Bean drives; Showcase Parade, where the community votes for BEAN of the Week; Field Day Hour, where the whole town plays together for 60 minutes; and Tug-of-Bean, where your BEAN pulls the rope for its neighbourhood.
There's also a Casino corner that uses tickets you've already won. Those bets don't count toward titles or the leaderboard, and since tickets can't be bought or cashed out, nothing of monetary value is staked.
For artists
Artists bring the art; the Machine brings it to life. Traits are layered onto a locked master BEAN, so the most important rule is that the BEAN itself never moves — your art fits the BEAN, not the other way round.
- The silhouette, canvas size, arms-down pose, hands and feet are fixed and never change.
- Clothing and props must fit the body, hands and feet without moving them.
- Each trait belongs to one layer. Hats go in Head / Hat, not a hand slot; held items go in Right or Left Hand.
- Prize and Shop traits still need a layer — a prize hat is still a Head / Hat trait.
Layer fixes are reviewed one trait at a time and approved before they go live. Nothing is resized, moved or redrawn automatically.
Credits
Traits show the artist who drew them once the credit is confirmed. Credits not yet confirmed are marked as such — don't assume a trait belongs to an artist from its look. Nobody's credit is guessed.
If you're new to creating for XRPL generally, Start Here: artist onboarding and colour theory for digital artists are both worth a read — consistent palettes matter a lot when traits have to sit together on one character.
Artists will be able to sell their own traits directly to collectors in the Trait Shop, including seasonal and limited drops, each priced in XRP or $DOOD depending on the artist and numbered by edition. Payment goes to the wallet you're signed in with on XRPL Home. Full details will be added when the Trait Shop opens.
Common problems
Most issues come down to three things: not actually being signed in, the wrong network selected in your wallet, or a transaction that hasn't confirmed yet.
If the lever or a game is greyed out, check that you're signed in, that you have a Main Bean selected, and whether a timer or play limit is showing. If it's still greyed out after signing in, report it.
Never share your seed phrase, secret, PIN or any code with anyone — including anyone claiming to be from the XRPL Home team. How to collect NFTs safely covers the rest, and the minting walkthrough has a full troubleshooting table.
Key takeaways
- One pull of the lever, one signature, one BEAN β the mint is blind until it's revealed.
- Born With is the original look, recorded permanently; what a BEAN wears can change afterwards.
- Changing traits in the Workbench keeps the same NFT β same NFTokenID, new look.
- Traits a BEAN is wearing go with it when sold; traits in your Bean Locker stay with you.
- Pinto Tickets are earned by playing, never expire, and can't be bought, sent or cashed out.
